Madonna

American singer, songwriter, and actress

Madonna is an American singer, songwriter, and actress. Born and raised in Michigan, she trained as a dancer before emerging from New York City's downtown art and music scene with the hit singles Everybody, Burning Up, Holiday, Lucky Star, and Borderline off her breakthrough 1983 self-titled debut album. She followed it up the next year with Like a Virgin, one of the best-selling albums of all time, boasting the No. 1 title track, as well as Material Girl and Angel.

Dubbed the "Queen of Pop," she switched up her sound and style through each subsequent smash release, beginning with True Blue in 1986 and 1989’s Like A Prayer, which contained the hit title track, Express Yourself, and Cherish, and was placed on Apple Music’s 100 Best Albums list.
After producing more chart-topping albums, singles, and provocative music videos (Vogue, Justify My Love, This Used To Be My Playground, Take A Bow), global sell-out tours, the controversial book Sex, and the groundbreaking 1991 tour documentary Madonna: Truth or Dare, Madonna released Ray of Light in 1998, for which she won Grammy Awards for Best Pop Album, Best Dance Recording and Best Short Form Music Video (for the title track). She picked up another Grammy for Best Electronic/Dance Album for Confessions on a Dance Floor in 2007.
Madonna has starred in such films as Desperately Seeking Susan, Dick Tracy, A League of Their Own, and Evita, for which she won the Golden Globe Award as Best Actress—Motion Picture Musical or Comedy in 1997. She was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2008 and headlined the Super Bowl Halftime Show in 2012.
